Faust (1926)

This week, we learn what it is to truly battle with the devil. But don't we have some fun in the process! F.W. Murnau presents this largely stylistic horror film at the height of German Expressionism, pitting Emil Jannings in the role he had been building up to throughout his whole career, the role of the demon Mephisto. Mephisto plans on corrupting an old alchemist to win control over the earthly realm, but in the process learns that humans are a little more complex than he originally thought. The Phantom Erik takes on this ambitious film along with the age-old tale, inspired by the original Dr. Faust, of making pacts with the devil.
