Bedlam (1946)

We knew you didn't get your fill of Val Lewton and RKO last week, that's why we're back with another film from 1946, 'Bedlam'. Boris Karloff is back as Master Sims, the apothecary general of Bedlam (the nickname of Bethlem Hospital in London, the oldest asylum in existence). When a spirited, though somewhat bull-headed young woman named Nell is horrified by how the asylum's patients are treated by Sims and the aristocracy of Britain, she attempts to reform the system. Unfortunately for her, her efforts only work to land her in Bedlam herself. The Phantom Erik and Lester Reaper present this film to you along with some other institutional horror efforts as they attempt to highlight how effective the setting of the sanitarium has been for the genre.
