Ancestral rhythms follow us everywhere we go. From Rock music lending from the chord progressions of Blues to Grime expanding the MC-led energy of Dancehall, every musical movement has a sonic tradition guiding its course.
In the present day, artists and DJs are bridging those generations, re-centering forgotten sounds on the dance floor and reshaping how we hear the world. Recently, in celebration of World Music Day, the likes of CAOIMHÍN, Anu and Guedra Guedra blessed us with their current interpretations of folk and ancestral music.
In this spirit, we want to hear your takes on this theme. We’re launching a competition for the chance to win a free lifetime Mixcloud Pro subscription! All you have to do is create a mix or radio show that brings to life the music of where you are in the world. Whether that be physically, emotionally, or spiritually. How it connects to its original, folk sounds and your own original take on what that means today.
To enter the competition, all you need to do is:
- Upload a show on your Mixcloud profile (30 minutes minimum running time)
- Tag it with #AncestralRhythms along with other genre tags
- Share it on social media tagging @mixcloud and using the hashtag #AncestralRhythms.
The competition opens today, Tuesday 22nd July, and closes at 11:59pm GMT on Friday 22nd August. The winner is announced on Tuesday 26th August. Their lifetime Pro subscription will come to them the following day.
