Motive Hunter Brings Artists And Ravers Together In The Name Of Jungle Music

We catch up with the record label, club night and creative platform that is taking Jungle by storm.

Motive Hunter is a platform amplifying the raw energy of the underground Jungle scene, championing both fresh talent and established names alike. From a curated day of programming for Rinse’s Kool FM to a fabric room 3 takeover, the record label and club night has established itself through major milestones as a space for artists to develop and thrive. At its core, Motive Hunter helps build the future, and every artist who’s released through the label is driven by one thing: pure passion for the music.

We spoke to founder Jake Osman about Motive Hunter’s ethos, the fabric takeover and why you shouldn’t rush the process when building a community.

What is the ultimate mission for Motive Hunter?

My goal is to make a meaningful sonic contribution to the conversation, acting as both a platform for emerging talent and a space where established artists can thrive. I channel the raw energy of the underground Jungle scene and its closely connected genres, driven by a passion for hard and fast, Bass and Breaks. We always tell the artists I work with, especially those at the start of their journey, that Motive Hunter is not the final destination but a stepping stone. I want to see the people I believe in succeed and I take pride in doing everything I can to push talent forward and help them carve out their path.

Having recently celebrated four years with a party at fabric, what are some of Motive Hunter’s major milestones since day one?

I can’t pinpoint the exact moment, but about a year ago, everything started to shift. A true milestone for me was when people genuinely began to take notice. From the very beginning, I built Motive Hunter on my own, and in those early days, it often felt like hardly anyone would give me their time of day. Now, the dynamic has somewhat reversed; one of my favourite producers recently sent me demos unprompted, a powerful reminder of how far Motive Hunter has come.

Another milestone would be the support from Kool FM/Rinse during my residency. In December, they invited me to curate an entire day of programming for their festive schedule, an incredible moment of recognition. What made it even more special was that Motive Hunter aired the day before V Recordings, my all-time favourite label. And I can’t forget what a landmark moment fabric was. To have Motive Hunter artists soundtrack an entire room all night, while some of the biggest names in Drum and Bass played in Rooms 1 and 2, was nothing short of incredible. To see the room packed? Wow, we did that.

Who are some of the artists you’re supporting that we should look out for?

Too many to mention, but everyone who’s released on Motive Hunter is worth checking out. All very incredibly talented individuals. Although I must give a nod of respect to Fez The Kid, Fendi-K, Vxrgo and Two Toke as it has become increasingly clear to me over the years that they are in this music for the same reason I am – the sheer love and passion for it.

What advice would you give to someone looking to grow a music community like yours?

First and foremost, don’t rush the process. Take the time to develop a solid game plan, assemble your core team and create a graphic identity. Which may be more crucial than you think. Establish a community or group chat to streamline internal promotions and keep everyone in the loop about your upcoming events and releases. Perhaps most importantly, ask yourself, “what am I bringing to the table?” On that note, if you’re reading this and still feel overwhelmed but have the drive to start something, feel free to drop me an email or DM. I’m more than happy to offer advice wherever I can.
