Mixcloud’s Favourite Moments of 2024

2024 was another great year for DJs, radio stations and moments on Mixcloud. We pick nine of the best moments.

2024 is almost over! Another 365 days where millions of DJs, musicians and radio stations made Mixcloud exciting, educational and musically diverse. From House vibes to fiery Grime cyphers, we were treated to a wide and colourful range of music and vibes. It speaks to the vibrant communities that exist on our platform that we’ve been able to witness and enjoy so much. We see you, and we thank you!

Here are just nine of our favourite moments on the platform throughout 2024.

The Lot Radio – b4 with Archangel and Charli XCX

Legendary moments are almost normal now over at The Lot Radio. Last year, Four Tet, Skrillex and Fred Again.. threw an impromptu party in the middle of Times Square, New York. It was a move that stopped the internet. This year, it was Archangel’s turn to make some noise, bringing in a special guest for their slot back in May: Charli XCX! The Pop superstar ran 2024 with her brat album and was responsible for the ‘brat summer’ phenomenon that flooded our collective timelines. She stepped into The Lot Radio to play tracks from the album. Stick around for the entire set. It features some Hyperpop goodness and a wonderful flip of one of the year’s biggest hits, Tinashe’s ‘Nasty.’ We need that remix, Archangel!

B2B DJ Battle Live (September 2024)

Back in September, the guys at Back2Back DJ Battle held their fourth battle of the year, pitting budding DJs against each other in a contest for supremacy. It turned out to be a super fun showcase of skills and tricks that had us taking several notes! There were flips of Dancehall, Bassline and Disco and so much unpredictability that you can’t take your ears off it. If you want to get involved in Back2Back DJ Battle in the future, its founder, Faded Society, can show you how.

Kindred – Interplanetary Criminal + Silva Bumpa

Renowned DJ and Rinse FM resident Interplanetary Criminal took to the Kindred Radio airwaves for a B2B session with fellow resident Silva Bumpa. The set is a great one to work out to, covering House, Garage and Techno, with some cheeky edits in for good measure.

Crack Magazine – Sunday Mix: Arushi Jain

On top of being a resident on NTS and The Lot Radio, Arushi Jain is a Brooklyn-based Indian composer pushing celestial tones. To celebrate the release of her Delight album which dropped in May, she gave Crack Magazine a Sunday morning mix that is almost like walking through a dark club with a hint of strobe lighting. Scattered, glitchy but incredibly groovy. In this hour-long mix, Jain explores Experimental, Ambient and Techno vibes, with not a minute wasted.

NTS Radio – Fred Again.. & Jim Legxacy – 17th October 2024

Two of the most exciting names in music combined in October. Electronic titan Fred Again.. welcomed the forward-thinking Jim Legxacy into his house for an NTS special. They played everything from Bon Iver to A$AP Rocky and had time to reveal some unreleased tunes and even some collaborations between the two. Peppered throughout are hints of Pop, Tech House and R&B, and some adorably wholesome conversation.

Robbo Ranx – Dancehall 360 – 22/11/24

Dancehall DJ Robbo Ranx brought the party in November with another edition of his radio show. Playing the latest Reggae and Bashment, he welcomed the legendary Harry Toddler, who helped shape the sound of 1990s Dancehall as part of the Scare Dem Crew. This is a perfect pre-party mix to get you ready before you step out and paint the town red. All while getting a lesson on the 1990s era of Dancehall, celebrated as one of the best.

Balamii – REUP LDN Presents: Pozer, JS x YD, Kairy Keyz, 163Margs, RYZ

In South London, UK culture REUP LDN welcomed the new school of UK Rap for a ferocious cypher on their Balamii show. Led by Pozer, who has taken the scene by storm with a string of strong singles this year, rappers JS x YD, Kairy Keyz, 163Margs and RYZ coasted through interesting sounds, including Drill with a Jersey Club flavour, Trap and more. The content isn’t for the faint hearted. But the cypher is a great look into what’s going on in UK Rap and Drill right now. And some of the new school artists who are next up.

Kiosk Radio – C12 x SLAVA w/ Dana Montana

There’s nothing quite like House to set the tone for a party. C12 x Slava accepted the call on Belgium-based Kiosk Radio. They called on Antwerp-based DJ Dana Montana to bless us with over an hour of Soulful and Hard House, taking us back to the heady era of House’s early days. Which is no mean feat!

Slam Jam – Funktion One by Don Letts

Legendary film and music video director and DJ Don Letts has directed for the likes of Bob Marley and the Wailers, The Clash and The Gap Band throughout his career. But, in his heart of hearts, he’s a Reggae head to the core. He gave us a lesson on everything Roots Reggae and Dub in an episode of Slam Jam back in March. Blending old with new, the mix plays out like chapters of the book of Roots, spanning different eras and sounds.

See you in 2025!
