To celebrate World Music Day, we hear from our community on their favorite artists from their respective hometowns.

World Music Day is a time for honoring how much music has given to the world. Originally started in France and also known as ‘Fête de la Musique,’ it has taken over the globe, with all kinds of unique celebrations. Whether you’re DJing, playing an instrument or going to a festival, World Music Day brings together creative energies in a moment of unity.

In this article, we hear from members of the Mixcloud family as they shine a light on their communities. Lush Lata represents Boxout FM, a radio station transmitting from New Delhi, India; Lamsi is an Amsterdam-based DJ and producer with regular slots on Ghana-based Oroko Radio; TROMAC is a Baltimore-based resident DJ and presenter for Washington, D.C.’s Eaton Radio, and Manchester-based Andrea Trout fronts the ‘Trout Spout’ show on the UK’s Reform Radio.

Scroll down for their top picks of local artists from their hometowns.

“I’ve been asked by the good people at Reform Radio and Mixcloud to suggest three artists from my home city of Manchester. I’d love to give a shout out to Children of Zeus, the duo of Tyler Daley and Konny Kon. I recommend you listen to their song ‘Vibrations’ from their album Travel Light. The second artist I’d like to give a shout out to is the wonderful band Secret Night Gang and their track ‘Out of My Head.’ Thirdly I want to highlight Samrai and his track ‘Khadi.’”

“These three artists really inspire me, have helped me define my sound and are winning in my city of Amsterdam right now. First up is Zilla and his track ‘Planboi’ featuring Xav; it’s really cool. Go check that out! Next up is Ruskey with ‘Pretty Girl Anthem’ featuring Yves. “This is a pretty girl anthem, dance with me, baby! [sings]” The third track is called ‘Drive It’ by an artist called Sky Feliz. It’s a really cool track, she’s such a great singer, and I actually produced that one as well. So that’s really cool, too!”

“I’m going to tell you my top three favorite Bass music producers from my city of New Delhi. First up is Stain. He’s my favorite Bass music producer from New Delhi. His latest EP Moral Dysfunction is a must listen! My favorite track is ‘Bhul Jao.’ Second in the list is Zealotantrik, an undeniable force in underground bass music production right now. My favorite track of his is ‘Broken Brain’ from my 2024 compilation album Lush Lata Selects. Third up is Insowmya, a wizard when it comes to beat making and wobbles. I think her sound and her style is so damn cool. My favorite track is called ‘Shut Up’, also featured on Lush Lata Selects.”

TROMAC, Eaton Radio, USA

“These three artists are doing their thing and putting on for Baltimore club music.” The first artist I want to shout out is my man Kade Young. He is so fire! He has this track called ‘Oh Baby’ off his recent EP PUSH IT. You need that! The next person I want to shout out is the homie Big J aka Jialing, she is so dope. She has a track called ‘BrokeFk’ and I’ve literally played that in so many of my sets this past year. The last person I’m going to shout out is my man Cadeem LaMarr, he is amazing. I’ve witnessed his growth over the years and it’s exponential. He has a track called ‘Bruket’ off his recent EP Deem N’ Bass Vol. 1. You absolutely need that!”
