4 Mixes To Get You Ready For Sónar Festival

Festival Season is here! Sónar is back again, and we share some red-hot mixes from DJs spinning this year.

We’re so excited that Sónar is returning for its 2024 edition! The festival, set in the sunny plains of Barcelona, Spain, has celebrated music of all kinds for 30 years. Some world class artists have lent their voices and performances on those famous stages. Think of Björk, Grace Jones, Gorillaz, Kraftwerk, De La Soul, M.I.A. and Arca to name a few. The quality at Sónar is such that it is one of the most anticipated festivals in the calendar each year. Staying true to form, it has gone all out in 2024. The likes of Kaytranada, CASISDEAD, The Martinez Brothers and Floating Points are set to perform.

To get you ready for festival season, we wanted to highlight some of the amazing DJs playing at Sónar this year. Scroll down for some serious heat!

Blck Mamba

Brussels’ very own Blck Mamba is a resident on Rinse FM with her ‘Club Mamba’ show. A one-way ticket into modern dancefloor sounds, everything from Kuduro to Grime can be found in her sets. She has spun with the likes of Jamz Supernova, Badsista, Uniiqu3 and more. Blck Mamba also helps the next generation of DJs in her hometown with Nightlab. This is a series of workshops that teach young people how to spin. To prepare for her first ever set at Sónar, she serves up an hour of percussive dance sounds that never runs out of energy. From UK Funky to Afro House, she’ll have you toe-tapping all the way through. “Basically, it’s just vibes,” she says of the mix. We’re inclined to agree.

Tayhana

Tayhana is Argentina’s best kept secret. The DJ and music producer has performed across Europe and Latin America and even remixed Kelela’s ‘Enough For Love,’ officially released by Kelela herself in 2024. Talk about high praise! Tayhana brings prestige and edge to her Sónar mix, as she travels through musical time. You can hear 1990s Hard House and Latin House with Baile Funk, Guaracha and contemporary South American club tones. According to her, the mix digs into “the collective Latin American unconscious,” but you’ll consciously be breaking a sweat once you hit play.

Mor Elian

Berliner Mor Elian gets ready for her back-to-back set with Marie Montexier at Sónar by Night this year with an explosive mix dipped in modern Techno. It is a weighty set from a DJ and musician who has performed everywhere from HÖR to De School and remixed tunes by Moonchild Sanelly and Drua. There are a lot of rhythmic vibes to choose from, with one or two surprises in there to have you moving your body just that little bit faster.

Olof Dreijer

As one-half of the famous Swedish Electronic duo The Knife, Olof Dreijer is no stranger to creating timeless musical moments. In fact, he’s been doing it for 25 years! Yet Dreijer is just getting started and his Sónar warm up mix is proof. He bottles Afro-Trap, Baile Funk, Rap and more and produces lightning. There is pure color throughout the mix, and has enough time for home-made acapellas, mashups, and more polyrhythms, paying tribute to Dreijer’s career as a pioneer of European dance music.
