There are seldom stranger things than the coalescence of fantasy and reality. As much as we disconnect from reality and tune into our own fantasias, we are always connected to ‘the Now’, like phantom limbs. The current world we parade in is actually a 1970s Italian horror film and real-life bogeymen do exist among us – it is extraordinary how we produce them, and we celebrate them, and we crave their wisdom, and we put up with it all like a bad television soap opera – maybe we all just want our time in hell.
Let’s embrace it. Put on your blindfolds and close the curtains, and let the room fill with the warbling drones of the Hammond organ. Don’t forget to breathe. The first mix is more of a dream; a fantasy depiction of the real world in all its surreal absurdities and ugliness. The second is more human, like waking upon a dream with the creeping dread soundtracked by advertisements*. Party! Beware! Check your neck!
