Most DJs get into it because they love music. Robert Pan (Saphyre) did because he grew tired of the same predictable music being overplayed and sought to make a difference.
With most people being told to produce tune after tune to "get famous", Saphyre instead focused on becoming a good DJ - an artform lost in our producers generation. This meant avoiding the cliches, never being afraid to surprise everyone with the classics, and making a set tell a story from beginning, middle, end. His goal is to get people interested in THE MUSIC - not him. If after a Saphyre set you say to yourself, "What track was that?; I must know!", then he did his job correctly.
He has performed at San Francisco venues such as Ruby Skye, The Regency Ballroom, and DNA Lounge, and has handed over the decks to acts such as John 00 Fleming, Darude, Talla 2XLC, Alex Morph, Dennis Sheperd, and countless others.
