20: Gender Expectations, Relational Aggression + the Reality of Sexual Assault with Dr. Lisa

Dr. Lisa is back for another episode! This episode we chat about how the plasticity of the brain has a direct effect on the gender development of children ultimately impacting their development into their formative years. Interestingly, it explains why boys and girls tend to have certain sets of skills. There are also other factors that can impact those skills that include things like trauma.

Call it social norms or call it something else, but there are certain things we immediately comment on or expect based on gender. We talk about those expectations and how that impacts the pressure girls may experience to feel, act, and look a certain way, which has to do with their self-efficacy and the way they view their competencies. How can we foster the development of girls so that we are putting focus on the right ways to foster their confidence? How can we help them get ready for the real world they will face? Who is their strongest role model and why does that matter?
