WTM #1123: Last Tango de Maria Schneider ~ Amsterdam ~ Ethno-Illogical Psycho ~ 07.02.11

I recently discovered I hadn't lost this WTM homage to the then-just-dead Maria. It was just tucked away in some strange file within a file on my desktop. So I decided to upload it. Her death hit me harder than I thought. We were almost the same age. She played in 2 of my favorite movies of all time – The Passenger & Last Tango in Paris & i carried her picture around in my wallet for years as if she were my girl friend or the template for the then-ideal woman [1970s]...

Includes very funky versions by, of course, Barbieri but also Blue Mitchell, Mongo Santamaria, Gotan Project & some choice scenes from those 2 films...

its my achilles heel: beautiful faces/auras. i see a beautiful face on the street and i am drawn immediately out of all dread, mayhem, angst & pressing issues of a daily survival sort. & yes, altho drawn to a broad spectrum of facial configurations i continue to be perhaps most enchanted by her 'type of' look.... now that i'm done with my yodel lecture i can catch up on things like listening to yr show altho i listen mostly in the background [passive absorption has its value & so does audio wallpaper (like scents)] & so spoken word is always a bit more challenging.

I enjoyed your story, bart. You honestly reveal how teen male sexuality of our generation is shaped by cinematic imagery and allegory. Perhaps those men who learn to transcend the cliche of the imagery to find to the passion and desire at the heart of the allegory, experience the real tango in Paris...
