WTM #1146: To Blurt or Not ~ Radio Patapoe ~ Amsterdam ~ 05.03.12
Always an honor, an annual WTM radio & live show in Amsterdam. This avant punk-funk ensemble never stood still, in fact, ex-puppeteer Ted Milton is the hardest working man in show biz now that James Brown has left the premises. They always sound the same but uniquely so. A conundrum of simple sound that maintains both a primal quality & an intellectual rigor with themes/rhythms recurring + post-Dada lyrics / heightened poesie, flittering & jabbing about the kinetic mix of scorching sax & hypnotic guitar/drums ...
I got to DJ live at the OCCII for several hrs on the final nite of Blurt's latest tour of Ger/UK/Fr/Be/NL BLURT & it was a wonderful night that opened with Kanipshun Fit [warped rock funk] leading into an inspired Blurt set of new & old coupled with the brilliant otherworldly mixing of GRRRT. & then got to hang with staff, GRRRT, Milton & bandmates into the wee hrs.
