WTM #1153: Albatross ~18.06.12

Finding a relation between Burial, Massive Attack, Fleetwood Mac, KLF & Mystic Moods Orchestra emerged from some inherent shared sonic ideal, an appreciation for ambience that fascinates in its inclusiveness & generosity. I suddenly heard this relation between Burial/MA & FM [Peter Green] & the oft weirdly engaging – I’m not sure why – MMO & Fantastic Sounds, creators of 60s-70s engaging ambient tales. & Burial is right on the mark in the heart of dub, ambience & darker speculative, stuff. Why “Albatross”? Cuz it was 1 of the 1st ambient rock that fascinated & enchanted when I was still young. Its glorious melancholy revealed a positive side to melancholy bordering on reflection. & what came through in the cover versions was the melody's surf sound integrity. The Coachmen [JD King unit, Thurston Moore’s early ensemble] seemed a couch surf post-jazz natural...

charming! Like a train trip across the Alps in the winter. Albatross reminds me of Monty Python.

Hi Mark the new upholstery is like soft suede. Responsive to touch and very textural. muchos gracias much to my liking!

Yes, mark... the arsenal is immense but the muzzle of the weapon of choice is small of gauge... thnx for listening.

How about contemporaries such as Don & Dewey, Jon & Vangelis, or Mark & Almond? Their compositions would certainly fit into your ambient, glorious side to melancholy mix, yes?
