Western Australian potato growers have sent a $500,000 invoice to the state government after Premier Mark McGowan made a decision to drop the legal action launched by the Potato Marketing Corporation against Mr Galati for allegedly deliberately planting more than his designated quota of potatoes under regulation. Minister for Agriculture and Food Alannah McTiernan says its the intention of the State government to return the funds to growers but are working with the state solicitor to see how to legally go about that.
The state opposition are calling for action on drought relief for farmers suggesting the Western Australian government consider measure put in place by their party back in 2006. Included were a dry seasons advisory committee, a rise in funding for financial and rural counsellors and a fund for growers to transport feed or establish a feedlot. But Agriculture Minister Alannah McTiernan says its too early to make those decisions and the government will be waiting until July
