This is the accompanying mixtape to the "Desolation Sound" EP by Eric Boros:
Growing up in Nanaimo, a small pulp mill town on Vancouver Island, there was a prevailing feeling of isolation – that of a nice, yet bleak post-colonial outpost on the edge of the world. These bands obviously weren't the first to play this kind of music, but for us they were. A sense of freakish community brought us together, as did the juxtaposition of the harsh natural surroundings with the harrowing urban desperation. This is by no means an exhaustive collection, nor is it meant to be a nostalgic relic of a bygone era. I thank all the bands for the inspiration, and Jim Barkhouse for digitizing all these old tapes.
