Calum Graeme Ingram/Communication Theory is an artist based in Perthshire, Scotland. His ‘more is more’ approach to composition involves searching through bins, skips and people’s attics to find discarded items that have potential to create noise. He alters, solders, modifies and warps the old instruments and hardware he discovers to build his growing arsenal of sound machines. This ever expanding collection of re-purposed ‘junk’: tape players, guitars, a TV, projector demonstrates his desire not to throw anything away and do things on the cheap (Alice II, his red electric guitar, was rescued from a bin in the Scottish highlands). His drive to rescue and repurpose is also seen through his archive of old unwanted VHS tapes, in many cases given to him by family members. Sounds from this archive are sampled in his works. The work he will present on Vers Libre this Saturday is a collection of works in progress and recent sounds that he has created and worked with in his studio in Scotland.
