Sermon by Rev. Alicia Forsey, Ph.D., recorded Sunday, 18 March 2012, titled Building a Sanctuary. A sanctuary is a place of silence. When words are spoken in a true sanctuary, they come after a time of quiet reflection on the inner sanctuary of the self. As UUCE prepares to move to a new location, the question of what will be different in our new sanctuary looms large. To do the kind of outreach we hope to do, we need to be intentional about creating a space where we can be alone while being together. In being silent together, we learn more deeply about who we are together, as well as who we are individually. Silence at the current location may last for two minutes during the meditation. Do we hope for something different in our new sanctuary? What is the foundation of a sanctuary, and what are the building blocks?
