Zahra Santos, known as Um Ailana when behind the decks, is a long established and highly talented artist, passionate about the music, art, dance and lifestyle that moves us. Um Ailana is a combination of Arabic and Hawaiian words meaning mother of islands, reflecting her diverse heritage and love for the water, never having lived far from a beach. Um Ailana got into DJing while attending university in Australia, and has played to audiences the world over, from the US to the Middle East and South East Asia. She single handedly brought house music to her home country of Oman in 2007, while at the same time being the first female nightlife DJ in the country, bringing her widespread recognition. Her versatile range of sounds within the house and techno genre reflect her wide-ranging experience playing to intimate gatherings and large raves, encompassing sounds from deep, eclectic ethnic house to more techy arena style beats.
