Ever notice that no matter how much you achieve or acquire in life, you still don’t ever fully feel settled? You thought that after the pay raise, the wedding, or the iPhone 4 you’d finally find fulfillment … but you haven’t. There is still this uneasy feeling always in the back of your mind that longs for things to be “right.” The reality is that we are all foreigners in this world. Like a first time traveler overseas, we are living in a constant state of culture shock. We get glimpses of home but things are not as they should be. One day they will. One day God will redeem and restore everything that has gone wrong. Until then, as followers of Jesus, we are foreigners called out to live for Him in ways that are very countercultural to the culture in which we live. This is the thought on Peter’s mind as he writes this important letter that packs a powerful application for each one of us.
