Most of us could probably rattle off a short list of issues and concerns that we are facing in our personal lives – and in our nation, as well – that are causing us a fair amount of fear. Unfortunately, fear is the leverage that the news media uses to keep our attention. Some of it is legitimate, most of it isn’t. Fear is a healthy emotion as long as it is kept within a certain context. Get it outside of where it belongs and it breeds worry, anxiety, and paralysis. Obsess on it and we lose focus of the purposes God created us for.
In the book of Ephesians, Paul writes to encourage a church that existed within a culture that has many parallels to our American culture today. He reorients them to who they are in Christ and why that matters. He uses an incredible picture to tie the book together that he calls “The Armor of God.”
