In 2 Corinthians 2:15-17 it says, “For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a task? Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, like men sent from God.”
Paul uses fascinating imagery here to communicate how the culture in which we live views followers of Jesus. To some, we are the fragrance of life and to others the smell of death! Another way of saying this is that as a follower of Jesus, you are going to be an unpleasant stench to some and a pleasant scent to others.
No matter how hard you try, there will be people who will simply refuse to hear or contemplate the gospel message. A boss calls you in and tells you to stop referencing your faith in meetings. A neighbor rejects your invitation to church for the third time. A spouse rolls his
