South African Jazz

Playing tracks by

Abdullah Ibrahim, Johnny Dyani, Basil Mannenberg Coetzee, Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath, Sathima Be a Benjamin and more.

South African Jazz - nothing much to say other than it's brilliant. So many musical heroes of mine. Abdullah Ibrahim is a God! On a personal note, I included the Johnny Dyani track Radabe as a tribute to Lucas Valeriu Radebe the former Leeds United captain. Okay so I live in Leeds and I'm biased. Lucas began playing in South Africa with Kaizer Chiefs (Yup! that's where the Leeds band got their name), before transferring to Leeds United, where he played 200 matches. Nelson Mandela said of Radebe; "This is my hero."
