Chart positions
This show was 1st in the global nu jazz chart, 3rd in the global funk - soul - jazz chart, 11th in the global hip hop chart and 11th in the global jazz chart.
My definition: “This is the music of a hip-hop band, Jazz — well you can call it that, but this jazz contains a new format…” My definition: “Jazz Rap” is a blend of jazz and hip hop, that developed in the late 1980s and early 1990s. My definition: The genre fuses jazz music with the newly dominant form of the present hip-hop, paying tribute to and re-energising the former while expanding the horizons of the latter. My definition: The rhythm was rooted in hip hop over which were placed repetitive phrases of jazz instrumentation: trumpet, double bass, etc. My definition: Groups involved in the formation of jazz rap included A Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets, De La Soul, Gang Starr, The Roots, Jungle Brothers, and Dream Warriors. This mix gives you a flavour of some Jazz and Hip-Hop integration, that will hopefully appeal to your feet as well as your head.
