January 30, 2019 Tom Morton and Drew Ratter
On the (very cold) night after the Lerwick Up Helly Aa, Drew and Tom talk fire festivals. And consider vikings, Shetland's Norse connections, the romance of Scandic imagery, branding, gender fluidity and that time Drew and his young comrades formed an Up Helly Aa Squad inspired entirely by the theory and practices of surrealism.
From there, the chat (interrupted by a noisy old dog and fuelled by tea and Waas Bakery Bakewell Tart) moves through Shetland's possible acquisition by Norway to what happened the previous evening not in Lerwick, but at Westminster. Some fairly robust comments are passed about our political 'leaders'. Mob rule, rampant individualism and the corruption of 'real' democracy - they blame the kids. Or perhaps Michael Gove.
Finally, gigs. Despite their advanced age, both Drew and Tom have recently been to a couple of actual gigs. And so to finish, some Django. He got rhythm.
