The LIBRIUM was a club, located in Essen (Germany), which was very famous in the early and mid eighties. The club was quiet small, but had a very stylish interior with polygonal walls and ceilings of polished metal and it was equipped with highly sophisticated sound, light and laser systems. There were also a lot of other technicals gimmicks (such as an elevating dancefloor), which made every visit an extraordinary experience.
Access to this club was not granted to everyone: A small sign at the door told "Admission only with references". (o.k. - In reality, it was not that hard to get in.)
The musical focus in the LIBRIUM was on Electronic Funk and something, you could call now "Proto House".
This mix provides a small selection of the music, played there.

Ich bin ein Norweger und besuchte Librium in 1980 und 81. Ich war 23 Jahre alt und arbeitete 6 Wochen in einer Versicherungsgesellshaft in Munster im Sommer und Ich und mein freund war eingeladen von ein DJ in Munster so wir fuhren dahin auf der Autobahn mitte nacht. Erstenmals war eine Miss Librium Konkurrenz da wo die schønsten deutsche Madchen konnte eine Woche in Ibiza gewinnen. Will niemals vergessen. Torkild Fosli (Norwegen)
ich war der DJ im Librium von 12.82. bis 03.86.
Wir hatten ne tolle Zeit, die jeden Abend um 22:59 Uhr mit Santana und der Light-Show begann..
Leider hat Franz Norkus sich selbst mit dem Modell Konkurrenz gemacht und den tollen Klub nieder gemacht. Sehr schade, ein Highlight in meiner 20-jährigen DJ-Karriere.
Franz war der verrückteste Owner ever - mach lauter...

Ich fand das Modell nie so gut wie das Librium, vielleicht liegt es auch daran, dass die ganz große Zeit schon vorbei war.
Librium war schon etwas ganz Spezielles.
Das Librium hatte seine beste Zeit von 1980-1983, zur Hochzeiten von Funk und Disco.

Ich weiß noch wie oft man dem Türstehen Micki Prügel angedroht hat weil er nur bestimmten Leuten Einlass gewährte.
Zu Beginn hatten die im Eingangsbereich eine Doppeltür, da ließ Dich der Türstehen rein, wenn er Lust hatte, gingst Du durch die rechte Tür, gingst Du die Treppen runter in die Disco, gingst Du durch die linke Tür, standest Du mit einem Male wieder draußen...
Das System wurde ja später im Modell verfeinert.

Nope. Habe sonst nichts dergleichen gepostet. Da kann ich leider nicht mit dienen.
I was a D.J. myself in Librium, the style of music was always at DJ'S hand. Only if the owner Mr. Franz Norkus said "play this this song for my wife" you better played it soon :-)
Mr. Norkus also said if the crowd is happy and the sales is alright you can play whatever you like.

Yeah! Pix from Librium would be very nice.
I do not remember that this was the music style of the Librium, it was more like Yello, Divine etc. of cause it was early Electronic but less Funk.

In my memories, the intro with the Dune-Theme and Carlos Santana was iconic. Also Disco-Funk Classics (Operator, Medicine, Word Up) are typical "Librium Tracks" for me. But you're right too: Divine (and other Bobby Orlando Productions) and Yello (Bostich!!!) are also fitting very well into the Librium Style.
