DIY Radio: Fat Cat Records: Furballs (29th August 2012)

Playing tracks by

Goldmund, Dustin O’halloran, Richard skelton , Caleb Burhans, Johann Johannsson and more.

This edition of Furballs is a "post-classical" special, made up partly of Johann Johannsson's jawdropping live performance of his Miners' Hymns in full at New York's Winter Gardens, performed by a large-scale brass ensemble alongside Johannsson's piano and electronic work. We also have some largely unheard Max Richter and Hauschka pieces, a beautiful remix of Dustin O'Halloran's 'We Move Lightly' by Robert Lippok and a cut from Estonian composer Galina Grigorjeva's stunningly beautiful Nox Vitae, written for the traditional men's choir of Estonia. Celebrating the recent, highly inventive end of a very broad spectrum of modern classical composition - something in which FatCat and our post-classical imprint 130701 Records have a vested interest - this selection of tracks represents some of our favourite works.
