With the launch of a recording studio in Minneapolis in 1955-purchased and renamed Kay Bank studios 2 years later. One of the partners in the renamed studio soon decided to launch his own record label-to save having to go out of state to press their own records. Amos Heillicher's Soma records initially was for Polka and Country music-but Rockabilly & Rock & Roll soon became a lucrative market - and the result were successes like Bobby Vee, The Fendermen, The Gestures, The Castaways and many others. Although the studio was sold the label sold off in 1967 - Songs like "Liar Liar", "Mule Skinner Blues" & The Trashmen's "Surfin Bird" still leave their mark. This program may just introduce you to a few more acts that the studio and label unleashed.
