Hey Brad, I think you are looking at the film from a materialistic aspect, if you don't mind my saying so. When we said the film was dated I meant purely from a cinematic and aesthetic perspective. Friedkin's use of effects and camera work gave the film a very modern feel!
Great show again, but found myself SHOUTING at the radio when you both said The Exorcist doesn't seem dated! I often think every time I watch it that it is so dated and there are several reasons... the fashion, from tank-tops and rounded collars to flares and Columbo-style trench coats; smoking, particularly by the doctor in his surgery; mutton chops; and the defining one for me, the scenes where Regan is having her brain scans and the machinery is so clunky and mechanical, with paint chipped from the scanners and that whole surgical suite screaming seventies to me! What do you think?
