Josh Waletzky and Deborah Strauss join us to discuss the Yiddish New York Festival, which celebrates and engages with East European Jewish traditions to foster new creativity, building bridges across borders. Waletzky is a leading contemporary Yiddish songwriter and an award-winning documentary filmmaker. Strauss is a beloved internationally-acclaimed klezmer violinist and educator who has been active in the klezmer and Yiddish music scene for more than 20 years.
The festival runs through December 28th with events at the 14th St. Y (344 East 14th Street, between 1st and 2nd Avenues) and the adjacent Town and Village Synagogue.
