Autism: A Battle for Civil Rights, Medical Treatment and Social Acceptance

Autism: A Battle for Civil Rights, Medical Treatment and Social Acceptance

The first case of autism was diagnosed 75 years ago in Mississippi. Since then, our understanding of the disorder has been fraught with misconceptions, fear and confusion. Journalists John Donvan and Caren Zucker trace the social and medical history of autism in their book In a Different Key: The Story of Autism, and profile the individuals who have pioneered for better medical treatment and social acceptance.
Event: John Donvan and Caren Zucker will be answering questions and signing books at Barnes & Noble on the Upper East Side (150 E. 86th St.) on January 25th at 7:00 p.m.
