An Enduring Love Kept Alive Through Letters

An Enduring Love Kept Alive Through Letters

Winifred and Bernard Schlesinger, the grandparents of author Ian Buruma, were German-Jewish émigrés who were forced to live apart during World War I and World War II. The hundreds of letters they exchanged over the course of their separation inspired Buruma's latest book, Their Promised Land: My Grandparents in Love and War, which tells the story of their enduring love.
Event: Ian Buruma will be in conversation with Adam Kirsch at the Institute for Israel and Jewish Studies at Columbia University (Hamilton Hall 602 New York, NY) on Wednesday, February 3rd at 8:00 p.m.
