About the show
Playing tracks by
Mike Longo, The Rhythmagic Orchestra, Scrimshire, The afro soul-tet, Doug Hammond & David Durrah and more.
Resident Rob Coley provides the mix this week, pulling out a varied blend of new and classic material on a jazz tip. We kick off the session with something fresh (and free) from Wah Wah 45s' Scrimshire, whose "Rain in July" features some lovely and moody trumpet work from Nick Etwell. Next up we travel to Detroit via Scandinavia as Ricky Tick drop some heavyweight big band business and we unearth some timeless Tribe material and fusion from Will Sessions and Mike Longo. A newly reissued nugget from The Afro Soul-Tet, an outstanding piece from pianist Gerard Maimone and The Rhythmagic Orchestra's Afro-Cuban take on Machito round off the selection before Les DeMerle's fittingly climatic 'San Quentin Quail' ends it on a high note.
If you're in London this weekend, you can catch both Rob and Nik alongside guest Sid Ford and the Jazz Meet band live this Sunday at The Shoreditch for an all day jazz extravaganza.
