When Blackclassical drops a jazz mix, we tend to take note. When he sends us an exclusive (we think) and includes a note saying this is his final jazz mix, we simply can't ignore it. For those of you who don't know the man, his record collection is smarter than your average bear. If you're lucky, a search on the interweb will bring you hours of carefully curated selections of deep, modal, righteous and spiritual music, most often than not out of print and rare as hen's teeth. The tribute he recorded for John Coltrane's birthday last year was epic, as are his two Sun-Ra specials, both essential for those seeking the lowdown on the man Ra. A little Elvin Jones, Rene Bloch, Afro Latin Vintage Orchestra and a full on conga stomper of Tito Puente all feature alongside a whole host of killer jazz business. Whether this turns out to be his last foray into jazz who knows, but savour it and make sure to check out the other mixes he blessed us with in our archives. Thanks for listening.
