When the Pharisees brought to Jesus a woman caught in the act of adultery, they reminded Him that the Law required that she should be stoned. They then asked what he thought they should do with her. The intent was to trap him in a situation where He would provide them with a reason to accuse Him and were forced to stand accused themselves. He brought a message of forgiveness. He didn't minimize her sin, He didn't condemn her for it, He forgave her and admonished her to go and sin no more. The point of the story was not condemning the sinner, but calling the sinner to change.
