New York City Police Commissioner Bill Bratton will step down in September, naming current Chief of Department James O’Neill as his successor.
WNYC reporters Robert Lewis and Brigid Bergin talk with City Council Member Vanessa Gibson (of District 16, which includes The Bronx) on her history with Chief O'Neill as the former commander of the Bronx's 44th Precinct.
"I talk to him a lot about diversity," said Councilwoman Gibson. "Elevating people of color and women, he will bring a different dynamic."
Chief O'Neill has already promoted Carlos Gomez to his previous role, and with Benjamin Tucker staying on as First Deputy Commissioner, the two highest ranking officers in NYPD are black and Latino.
