Inspired by Ahmad Jamal's "Poinciana" recorded at the Spotlite Club in Washington, DC in 1958 and originally released in 1963. This pianist has since achieved living legend status by constantly evolving and refining his sound throughout his music, going well beyond the influential work that established his unique piano artistry and innovative trio conception back in the 1950s. His consistency for over 60 years displays a remarkable individuality and integrity. Even Dilla was inspired and dropped a track called "Ahmad Impresses Me." I couldn't help but feel the same after indulging his music this weekend. If this episode had a title, I'd probably call it "Ahmad Impresses Me Too."
