‘A Place to Play’, the first of a series of HLF funded documentaries produced by the Chronicle project, documents the history of grange gardens and the marl, during the twentieth century, through the lens of volunteering. You will uncover the various volunteering initiatives that have sought to help and improve the community, some of which include Air Raid Precaution and adventure playground schemes. Throughout the twentieth century and into the present day volunteers have helped to shape and build the community, and this documentary seeks to give insight into the history of this.
Chronicle is a two-year community heritage project led by Voluntary Community Service (VCS) Cymru and supported by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Our aim is to collect and gather stories about volunteering and volunteer work in Cardiff from 1914-2014 and make them available to the public.
