In My Folk and their Friends this week, presenter Tamsin Rosewell looks at folk music of Fairy Tales and Folklore in a show replete with shape-shifting swan maidens, seal people and other friends and relations of Robin Goodfellowe. Tamsin examines our fairy-lore, and the importance of the old stories to our heritage and to our imaginations. The show includes a wonderfully creepy version of the Ballad of Long Lankin from Tinkerscuss, new work from young blues artist Jack Blackman and some early work from Pentangle and from Pagan group, Omnia. There is also a piece from Emily Portman that includes within it a Hebridean Chant that is, folklore tells us, of Selkie origin. Tangled in the thick, thorny forest of this show are witches, sorceresses and legendary Queens as well as nursery bogies, superstitions and unquiet spirits.
