Professor Ben unpacks the intersection of media reporting and the police use of lethal force in this two-part Podcast. There has been a public debate about the police use of lethal force since the Michael Brown shooting in August of 2014. The media perpetuated an incorrect account of the events that transpired day…leading to the fatal shooting of Michael Brown. The incorrect narrative of events was corrected when the grand jury decided not to indict Ferguson Police Department Officer Darren Wilson- and when they released the findings of the investigation (as briefed by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch) on November 24th, 2014. The Use-of-Force Continuum is a tool for law enforcement where escalation of force is merited given the reasonableness and entirety of an incident.
