Professor Ben- you must be crazy! Remember Sandy Hook? What about the Colorado Theater Shooting? Yes, I do- we all do. And it was shock to our public conscience and the loss of life was tragic- there is no discounting this. However, being murdered in such an incident is incredibly rare- yet we encounter threats daily that are thousands of times more likely to kill us, than an assault rifle, that have no support from interest groups. Listen to hear what they are.
* There is no actual definition of ‘assault rifle’. I use the term because that is how the public understands it- which is, of course, misleading…yet I am stuck using the term because a true definition, as it comports with the broad misunderstood (yet used) social definition, would take a good ten minutes of discussion in the Podcast.
