Lincoln in the House of Reps

Lincoln in the House of Reps

Picking up just after last week's discussion of the 1838 Young Men's Lyceum speech, Dan and Seth cover Lincoln's first nationally important position: U.S. Representative from Illinois. As a representative, Lincoln attacks the Mexican-American war and begins to consider the issue of slavery. The episode concludes with Lincoln's departure from office, and his rather bitter 1852 speech against Franklin Pierce, the Democratic candidate for president.
