Really found this incredibly useful. I am also a member of Julia's Facebook PDA support group and am so grateful to her. My 5 year old daughter has Microcephaly and PDA. She has got an Autism diagnosis but not.a formal PDA diagnosis but fortunately the professionals who diagnosed her have worked closely with her school and ourselves with lots of PDA strategies. Her SEN school is amazing. Brilliant show.
Thank you for your comment - we have some other guests with autism coming on the show soon so it will be very interesting to discuss this with them too. Laura
This was great. I am a member of the Facebook Adult PDA support network Julia set up, which is why I listened to this show. I think Julia described PDA really well. I am motivated to comment also though because of the presenters' assertion - both autism trained educators - that nonPDA autists don't experience empathy. A recent study using brain scanning has disproved this myth: Autistic people, all of them, have hyper-functioning brains, which include hyper-empathy, it is just that they are frequently unable to communicate this empathy and also miss social cues so don't pick up on signs that neurotypicals do. Intensity of experience can also cause some autistic children to withdraw, resulting in apparent hypo-sensitivity. Please Google Intense world Theory if you are intetested in reading more about this.
