A Child to be Born: Hearing the Prophecies Again for the First Time and in Our Time

Elizabeth Tesi on "A Child to be Born: Hearing the Prophecies Again for the First Time and in Our Time". The reading for the day is Matthew 1:18-25. In Isaiah, we hear the great prophecies of the young woman who will bear a child. In the Christian church, we look with hope towards Jesus. But what if this prophecy was first given to God's people long before Jesus, to give them hope in their dreadful, frightening times? Let's explore how the prophecy could be heard, and re-heard, through the ages, and listen for how God is calling us to work and to hope in our own times.
