1987 - BBC Radio1 Top40 18 Jan 1987 with Tommy Vance (Type1 C-120)

Playing tracks by

Raze, Kool & The Gang, Freeze, Taffy, Randy Crawford and more.

BBC Radio 1 Top 40 18th Jan 1987 with Tommy Vance in for Bruno Brookes and 5 mins of Annie.

This was the last of my regular monthly top 40 recordings and at this point I had changed my tuner.

The TDK AD tapes turned out to be one of the best C120 type 1s available at the time and this tape is proof at almost 32 years old to the day of posting (18th Jan 1987 recording and posting on the 20th Jan 2019), tho mixclouds quality is nowhere near what the recording sounds like.

Recording Date : 18th Jan 1987

Cassette Tape : TDK AD C-120 (Type I)

Thanks Pedro, I still have old chart tapes to work my way through, though most are now on mixclould and as you say a joy to hear after all these years,

Many thanks for this, as DJJust mentioned, better than the other circulation copy out there!. Yes the pitch speed is slightly slow, i managed to get a copy of this, with a fix correction of the speed making it 1.59.10 long, as i hear a nice join in of the Lionel Richie track half way through as 50 seconds of it missing due to side of tape running out

Stewart Carson

Wow you spotted that join and took into account well done, If you want the WAV 48K 24 bit file then let me know and Ill send a link, it's about a 2GB file....

Excellent upload Stewart 👍 It could be my ears, but the pitch seems slightly slow? I could be wrong though.

Stewart Carson

The show ends at 2:01 so it may be a bit slow and if you can hear 1 min over a 2 hour then you have some super pair of ears there, I know my deck is about as spot on as you can get.... plays a 3000 hz at [email protected] upload the 48K 24bit version and send you the link....

Mark Andrew Jones

If the cassette deck you originally recorded this Top 40 on was running slightly fast then it may play slightly slow on the correct speed of your current cassette deck. I always compare the pitch of my uploads by playing random tracks against the same tracks on Spotify. I‘ll have a listen to the 48k 24bit version at double check 👍

cant say I hear the pitch being out that much, there will always be a small amount and the recorder used was the one that did all the 84 to 87....Im not sure if I would hear 2 minutes over 2 hours, all the charts I've done I've never had a CD or mp3 file that fully matches the tape, there's always a small difference, i would thing that's down to the wow and flutter speed variation.
