I Kings 1 takes place during the twilight of King David’s life. As David becomes physically weaker, one of his sons, Adonijah, attempts a coup to steal the throne and become king. Unfortunately, this is not the first time such a thing has happened. David has had this problem before and he is now dealing with it again. Sadly, all of this could have been avoided if David had exercised some wisdom earlier in life.
While I Kings 1 is rich in Biblical truths, one of the main lessons we can apply to our own lives is how living responsibly today can spare us some of the pain and heartache of tomorrow. Yet, therein rests the dilemma. For how does one live responsibly? Consider the following principles we can learn from David’s life:
1.) We Must Learn the Importance of Making First Things First.
2.) We Must Be Careful to Watch for Storm Warnings.
3.) In Times that We Blow It—We Must Accept God’s
Discipline and Allow His Power to Heal & Transform Us.
