Sermon Series: Imagine a Church on Mission.
Don’t just take our word for it . . . take His! We would encourage you to spend time examining the following Scriptures that shaped this sermon: Acts 6:1-7
Acts 6 begins a thread through the rest of Acts that tells of how "The Word of God spread..." We also read of this in Acts 12:24 and Acts 19:20.
The context of God's Word continuing to spread in Acts 6:1-7 does not involve political opposition or false teachers attacking the church. Instead, Acts 6:1-7 tells us of the in-fighting and division WITHIN the church that threatened to inhibit the spread of the Gospel.
While serving the widows was not unimportant, the Apostles concluded the best use of their time was 1) prayer and 2) preaching the Gospel message.
Serving should never be in competition with preaching. Instead, serving is often the manifestation of the Gospel message put into practice.
Read Paul's words from Philippians 2:3-8.
