The kingdom, or rule, of God is central to Jesus’ teaching reported in the synoptic Gospels. The content of his teaching about the kingdom was very different from the expectations of the crowds who came to hear him in Galilee. The growth of his kingdom would be based on persuasion, not revolution. In the parable of the sower it is clear that not everyone would ‘hear’ what he had to say. So also today, many do not ‘hear’ the message of Jesus’ kingdom, and many have their minds closed to what he has to offer.
