When God went looking for a father for his chosen people he picked Abraham. God told him he would be blessed; God told him he would be a blessing. Abraham’s obedience led to repeated generosity. Nearly 2000 years later, God chose another man to bless with His presence: Zacchaeus. When Jesus ate with Zacchaeus, the respectable people complained. That visit changed Zacchaeus’ life, and when he displayed amazing generosity, Jesus declared him “a son of Abraham.” Jesus was obedient, too, fulfilling God’s promise to Abraham and his prophecy about Abraham’s seed. Only Jesus’ obedience resulted in our blessing.
