Notice how Jesus begins this passage: "When you fast..." Not "If," but "when..." It is clear that our Lord simply assumes His disciples are people who, from time to time, fast.

Just what is fasting anyway?
We're reading more all the time about the bodily benefits of fasting. But when we look into the pages of Scripture, we find absolutely zero talk about fasting's benefits to our flesh: "the body is more than food..."

Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret wil
