Yeah, I know - music award ceremonies and best-of lists usually amount to little more than bragging rights among really tight circles. But this Dead Albatross contest is good - Paul Ackroyd, who threw this together, aims to capture a diverse cross-section of UK music in his shortlist for the prize, and doesn't charge artists to be nominated (unlike the Mercuries). He ran the first contest last year, and I was really psyched about it then - now I'm a judge for this year's prize, and I'm still really psyched. Out of the 25 shortlisted albums, I've got to choose ten - so here's what made the cut for me.
